The hoof is mightier than the paw

Quick update on my New Year Substitutions (16 Jan blog post).

Whilst I don't think I've failed to stick to them, I do have a small confession to make that could effect Substitution number 1. If Kasper rolls or canters in the field I WILL run up and down barking at him (on the other side of the fence of course; have you seen the size of his hooves?!).

Now, I should have added Rosie to that Substitution (hindsight is a wonderful thing), cos when human friend turned her out in the field the other day, the little horse took off like the proverbial pooh (my favorite subject) off a shovel. So what's a dog to do? Slip through the gate, past human friend and run full pelt after Rosie barking as loudly as possible of course.

Oh yes. Rosie can move alright. Especially her back legs...
I now know that wasn't one of my smartest moves (hindsight truly is wonderful), because Rosie obviously thought she was being pursued by a wolf and did what any horse who's life is in danger would do - she let rip with her back legs. Luckily for me I wasn't close enough for the full force, and she doesn't have any back shoes on, so the only thing she dented was my pride. No trip to the vet needed.

Always best to be on the other side of the fence where horses are concerned!
Apparently, human friend was yelling at me to stop, but I can't recall hearing anything but hoofbeats escaping at speed across the field. I guess I was too excited. I did go running back to my human shield with tail between my legs, and was on my best behaviour for the rest of the day. Went home and straight to bed.

So, I'm adding Rosie retrospectively to Substitution number 1, and will ONLY bark at her from the other side of the fence. No chasing. No matter how much she provokes me. Promise.
