Me and my Shadow

Well, here he is. As mentioned in a previous post, this is Shadow, my GSD pal. Yes, I know. We both look a bit knackered, but this was after a prolonged bout of 'I'm on top'. Like I said, I have to take every opportunity to put him in his place cos he's rapidly catching me up in height (he'll always have bigger ears tho), and is less than half my age. Yikes! Maybe I'll start being a bit nicer to him from now on. Just in case he overtakes me in the bulk stakes and the gloves come off. Bow wow baby...

What's a 'doodle to do?

There's been a lot of talk lately at Alphapet Towers about adopting some ex-battery hens. Well, you'd think it was as big a decision as what to give me for breakfast. The amount of ifs, buts and maybes between my human friends makes me think it may not happen anytime soon.

Argument against:
He says that I might attack and eat the chooks. Hmmm. He does have a point - and I'm thinking he's based his argument on one of our more exciting walks. It started like most of our walks do; he throwing my Hovercraft as far as is humanly possible, and me hurtling along its trajectory before it's even left his hand. This continued around our regular field for quite a few throws, with me getting pretty good at flying catches. One particular throw left the field margin and disappeared into the undergrowth with me it hot pursuit. Retrieving is in my blood you know, so I offer no excuses for what was about to occur. As I snuffled and scrabbled around for the errant toy I came face to face with an altogether more interesting object. One with feathers and a beak. I don't know who was the most shocked, but I didn't stop to wonder about it at the time. I found out my new toy was a pheasant and my human friend was not as impressed at my retrieving skills as I'd hoped. After he'd stopped shouting at me and realised the pheasant was indeed alive alive-oh, he made me leave my new feathered friend behind and we continued where we'd left off with our game of frisby.
Now that's what I call a chicken

Argument for:
She says that I'm easy to train and know my boundaries. I can see where she's coming from. The front garden is off limits for me (apparently I dig too many holes and stain the lawn - huh!), so even when the gate is open I won't venture in.
Max looking smug in the front garden
It's really unfair though cos Max and Teddy-cats are in and out of there all the time. One rule for them another for moi. I haven't even attempted to jump the fence - and the temptation is really strong when there's an impromptu game of footie going on I can tell you. She also pointed out that my mum (Madge) lives with lots of chooks and when I visit I don't go anywhere near them. To be honest, I'm so busy chasing mum around the garden I don't have time to think about chickens.

So. Those are the arguments for and against.I'd love to know your views cos I can see this one running on and on and on.

It's enough to make me turn vegetarian...

Hurri-K9 weather

You canines in sunny climes may find it hard to believe, but we've had so much rain that the river burst it's banks today and I wasn't allowed to go swimming. It must have been bad 'cos I'd been rolling around in the muck heap this morning with Shadow (who's a lovely GSD puppy) and apparently I was 'filthy and smelly' and in need of a wash.

Honestly, my human friend lacks a sense of humour sometimes. I'm just doing my doggy duty by putting the puppy in his place before he gets bigger than me. Makes sense. And sometimes we roll around in the mud; sometimes in puddles; and, more often than not, in the muck heap. (He's pretty good looking is Shadow, so I'll post a picture of him soon.)

Anyway, back to the original story. The river was really raging, so if I had jumped in I would have ended up in Edinburgh apparently. All the wind and rain in our neck of the woods (Stirling) has something to do with Hurricane Katia which originated in the Atlantic off the east coast of the States. Surely, coming from that part of the world, it should bring sunshine and warm winds. What's going on there then? Weird. Anyway, I had to have a hose down instead when I got home. So, washed and groomed I figured the best thing to do was to snuggle up next to my AlphapetOnline buddy, Max. Meow baby...

Santa Claws

I was peering over my human friend's shoulder as she trawled her way through the online photo library, and it got me thinking about Christmas. Yipes! It's still early September and I'm already whistling Jingle Bells (yes, some dogs can whistle) and looking out my Santa hat.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas

It's not so sad for me though as I need to be putting gifts and suchlike on the website (www.alphapetonline.co.uk if you don't already know it) for our Christmas shopping customers. And I know that some people actually start their festive shopping in September. My human friends' friends often buy me a little gift (not always one that I would have chosen myself) but I know they really appreciate the thought. As do I, of course.

So here's the thing. If you're stuck for gift ideas for a friend or colleague who also has a pet, why not invest in a gift certificate from Alphapetonline. That way, they can choose something that they really, really want. Sorted!

Summer of much content

What a summer I've had! Back to back visitors, who all loved me of course. Having visitors meant that I got to go to lots of new places I'd never been before. And given my human friends' love of horses, that meant horsey events too. We made our first visit to Hopetoun Horse Trials near Edinburgh and also managed a trip to Blair Horse Trials. I'm always on the lookout at those type of events for nice stuff for us canines (the pussy cats too), and there will be some different products coming up on my web site soon for you to buy.
Watching cross country at Hopetoun

See those fences down the hill? I could jump them.

Please let me know if there's anything you want me to write about, or if you'd like to contribute something useful to my blog that you think other pet lovers would be interested in, please get in touch. We'd love to hear from you. After all, it's not much use writing stuff that nobody wants to read! L8rs my lovelies.
